crazy tt

i did what i would have to say the most dangerous tt ive ever done in my life on saturday, a 10 miler, which was held on an open motorway up in Cambridge.

driving up to the course i couldnt really believe where we were meant to ride, both me and gordy looked at each other and couldnt believe it. it was a 2 lane motorway with no hard shoulder, so you were out in the lane of traffic riding, while cars and trucks bombed past you at 70mph+

you started on a slip road, bombed out onto the motorway, went down 5 miles, went up a slip road, hit a roundabout at the top with 6 roads leading into it, went round it, down the other slip road on the opposite side of the road and back on the motorway to the finish. cars and trucks buzzing past you the whole time. i now understand why some of the guys here can bang out such fast tt’s, with so much traffic so close to you its easy to go fast, especially with a couple of trucks going past close you cant help but be sucked along. the even stupider thing is you dont have to wear helmets over here in tt’s, and when i was out on the course i saw 3 guys with no lid on at all. good luck with that. im pretty sure i made my debut/retirement 10mile motorway tt on saturday, ive got better things to be doing with my time then play in traffic
