off on an adventure

well im off to new caledonia tomorrow, should be a great time.

the weather here in nz has been great, but you can guarantee sunshine aplenty over there.

i found out the other day the tour is actually 10 days long, actually, i dont really know buggar all about what to expect over there, who im riding with, what the stages are like.

its weird, i was talking to a few boys the other day, and cyclists will just shoot off on a whim and a prayer to get anywhere to race. ive had 2 text messages to confirm im doing this tour, thats it. one to ask if i wanted to do it, and the other to ask what time i was getting into the airport. thats it. thats all the info i got, but most trips are like that nowadays. maybe its a 10 day tour doing massive gravel bergs each day?? i guess ill find out in a few days-i think it starts on thursday? hah

in other news, the battle truck is running fine. had a tiny bit of a battle with it, i went to jeffs truck yard to pick it up after it got off the boat, and i got there and the lady was like “im terribly sorry, but we had to tow it off the boat, and tow it onto the truck, and tow it off the truck to the yard” instantly i shit myself and panicked, and sure enough went to start the truck myself and no go. no in full on panic mode i went home to get the guys number who i bought it off and gave him a holler.

he assured me all it needed was a touch of a jump start, and it would be fine, so with nothing left to lose i went back out to the yard, and talked to a different guy, who said “you’ll never get it running, we tried all day yesterday, we put diesel in it, bleed it, jump started it, and nothing would happen, mate its not going to start, but by all means try it for yourself but you’ll be making a big liar out of me and everyone on the dock if it starts.”

so me and one of the young guys trudged out to the battletruck with a jump start kit, with a bit of an audience watching, hooked it up, and……………………………..BRMMMMMMMMMMMM first pop it went. thank fuck for that i said under my breath and walked back into the office, the guy was just shaking his head in disbelief. “you must have magic hands or something” he muttered.

all i can say is, apart from an oil change and a radiator flush that ill do when i get back from new cali it will get through summer no stress. fingers crossed
