the pub bike

well i finally managed to sell my teambike from last year, albeit 2 months late, but sold none the less.

i thought i had gotten everything sorted about a month or so ago, got it re-cabled and all scrubbed up, and was ready to sell it. i then tried to shift the seat height, which is where the problem started. well all of my problems evolved from the seat not shifting.

it was jammed in their tighter than anything i had ever seen before, i even had the seatpin in a vice at the bikeshop trying to get it out of the frame and it honestly wouldnt budge. it was an oversized carbon seatpin and i guess i never shifted it that much last year, so it just bound up in there over the winter.

so i panicked, thought the frame was stuffed and proceeded to throw all my toys out of the cot and got into a very grumpy mood for the rest of the day.

i took it down to the local bikeshop Quest, and handed it over to the guys there and amazingly, they fixed the problem. i dont know how, and i really dont care, but the frame came back the other day with an aluminium seatpin in it and no sight of that bastard carbon one.

then came the matter of selling it. the guy i had lined up a few months back was still interested somehow, and he gave me and told me to bring the bike down to “the prince of wales” pub in the middle of town. i wasnt to keen on that but he said it was sweet and he’d have a look at it, and wanting to get it off my hands agreed and trucked off down into town.

i got to the pub with my bike, they guy came out(this was the first time he’d actually seen the bike) looked at it for 2 seconds, said “yeah sweet” handed me over a cheque, then just locked it up to a lampost outside his local pub and went back inside. if the guy wasnt a doctor i would be worried about the cheque bouncing but hes on the level and the cheque was good so i was happy to get it off my hands. definalty the quickest bike sale ive ever made in my life though. 2 seconds flat from viewing to payment.

i went back into town later on that night to go out for a meal, walked past the pub at about 9.30pm, and the big eddy mercks was still locked up the lampost outside. its definatly going to be the flashest pub bike in town till it gets flogged!!
