wind!!!!
yesterday at the canterbury champs was the windiest conditions i have ever raced in. and i mean ever. it was insane
we started off our 140km race with about 20 people on the line, and everyone was dreading the race as it was blowing a gale. and i mean gale
it was 4 laps round the cust block for those that know it, and that meant 4 times up german road into a gale force nor’wester.
for the first 3 laps up german road i ran the small chain ring the whole way up it, which ive never had to do before, and on the second lap up there i actually got blown off the road. i went from the middle, to way into the grass with about 6 other guys and all i could do was laugh it was completely mental.
in the tail wind sections we were sitting on 70kph the whole back side of the course without really trying, and i only had a 12 sprocket on which made life even more fun, nothing like some impromptu VO2 max training thrown in with some strength training on the front side of the course every lap.
i felt pretty good for most of the day and attacked quite a bit just to try to wreck myself before we head off to suntour on friday, and successfully did that, i finished absolutely knackered which was good. a group of 3 guys got away just before we turned into the tail wind for the last time, id just been caught after an attack and was gassed and then realised a touch to late, that trying to chase people in the tail wind with a 12 on was dam near impossible i got the gap down to about 5 seconds, but just actually couldnt go any harder to get over, i was completely gassed and had to give up cause those boys up front werent slowing down. i finshed about 5th or something, pretty happy with how my legs were as i chucked a massive erg session into myself the day beforeso cant complain. also think ive finally shaken this cold ive had since ive gotten back from new caledonia, that was bloody annoying without a doubt. being sick sucks big time!!!!!!
