winning races and the smelly team car

last night we decided to go down to the local road race, very famous in these parts called the Hillingdon GP, raced round a closed cycle specific circuit about 15km from our flat.

we went out and rode 3 hours in the morning, stopping off at our favourite cafe in Windsor, nicknamed Mrs Mc’cs. its based right below Windsor castle, and im so far still waiting for my invitation to go up to the castle and have tea and scones with the queen, im not sure why, i mean we have the union jack on our flag, so im sure that means when i go to windsor i should by rights get tea and scones and a sit down and chit chat with old liz?

got home, packed the team car to drive to the race as its normally to dark to drive home by the time it finishes and it was all going well, untill i opened up the passenger door and climbed in, and was met with this horrible wafting grotty smell of baby sick, off indian food and curdled milk all rolled into one stinking aroma. i honestly just about dry retched.

someone on the team (through my powers of deduction ive narrowed it down to biggsy and freddy the swede, i watched alot of scooby-doo when i was a kid so i think i could solve most crime now) had very kindly spilt some form of recovery drink all under the passenger seat. then the car had been in the sun all day and just baked it into the rugs. it was gross. after firing the offending bottle out the window and driving to the race with all windows down and the fan on full tit, i could finally breath properly again without feeling ill.

the local race turned into an expensive affair for me, it cost me 18 quid to enter!!ouch. turns out there you buy your number for the year which costs 10 quid, plus 8 quid for entry. can you imagine paying that much back in nz to enter your tuesday night race? 55 nz bucks? i dont think so.

the race is normally pretty big, with 80+ guys starting last night, and since myself, gordy and tony were the only pros there, it was a massive “chuck one into the pros night” which was actually quite fun, guys were attacking us all over the show, one guy even attacked in the grass off the course to try to get away which had me in hysterics, i was laughing that much i almost binned it cause i touched the wheel infront of me. it came down to a big bunch kick, so i had gordy (peterpan-the man that will never grow old) policing the front for the last 4 laps and tony for the final couple hundred metres leading me out. if nothing else these races are good practice for us to get the lead out sorted for the bigger ones, gordy smoked the last lap and tony dropped me off with about 2 hundy metres to go to take the win. i won a massive 20quid, so finished the day 2 quid up, but owing gordy and tony coffees, which will make me broke again. sigh.

training today was another wet one, got soaked for 3 hours. was one of those days where you get home with sore eyes from a combination of squinting, and getting alot of crap in them. would be great to take the foot off the gas and try and get out when the weather cleared, but living in the uk i just dont think thats a possibility so would never get out the door. plus i think we have a couple of pretty big races coming up with over 1000 squid up for the win in each of them, and when you convert it back to good old nz dollars, would look good in the bank account, so neither me or peterpan want to be the softcock lately that doesnt want to go training in the rain so off we go. speaking of which i need to go get stain remover and spray it all over my kit, pink and light blue tops tend to get stained riding in the wet buggar it all. wonder if hendy has this problem in the t-mobile stuff?
